Incentive scheme targets ‘mega-projects’ for WA
The State Government has announced an incentive scheme for new clean industries to attract “mega projects” to set up in one of WA’s Strategic Industrial Areas.
Premier Roger Cook said the new industrial lease incentive scheme would put an estimated $160 million on the table for proponents to establish projects.
The program will deliver a rebate on lease fees and rent waiver for a set period for proponents, and will be available for projects in the Anketell, Boodarie, Maitland, Mungari, Oakajee and Shotts SIAs.
Projects with a capital cost of $1 billion or more are eligible to apply, and projects will be required to make a final investment decision by 30 June 2028.
Proponents who wish to take advantage of the scheme will need to submit an application and are only able to be considered after they have been allocated SIA land by the Industrial Lands panel or entered into an option to lease.
The Premier said that in the past two years, the Government had allocated land to 14 major projects in WA's SIAs.
“Combined, those projects represent $104 billion worth of investment, which could generate thousands of construction jobs and almost 1,700 operational jobs,” he said.
“Global competition to attract clean energy projects is running hot, and my Government is throwing everything at positioning WA as a renewable energy
powerhouse for the future.
“This scheme will ensure we can secure multi-billion projects that will create thousands of ongoing jobs for Western Australians in the industries of the future.”
